Review: We-Vibe Bond – a different kind of cock ring

The We-Vibe Bond is a different kind of cock ring. First Impressions of the We-Vibe Bond

When the We-Vibe Bond arrived, I was met by We-Vibe’s usual high standard when it comes to packaging. I have to admit though, I was sssssslightly disappointed by the fact that the Bond is coloured black. Some people really like black sex toys, I’m not one of them. What I was impressed by though was the soft texture of the silicone that the cock ring is made out of and also the nice yet subtle rumbly vibrations that the Bond produces.

The We-Vibe Bond is made out of medical grade silicone and ABS plastic, so perfectly safe for the body. It comes with a small storage pouch, a remote control and a recharge cable.

How does the We-Vibe Bond fit around the penis?

As I mentioned above in the opening, the We-Vibe Bond has a unique way of fastening around the penis. Instead of being a closed cock ring, it can actually open up. It uses a small plastic clip to close. It may seem trivial but I find this fastening system really great. Sometimes, silicone cock rings can be too rigid and cause discomfort when stretching them over a fully erect penis. With the Bond, that would never be a problem, because you simply wrap it around the base of the penis (behind the testicals) and fasten the clip to keep the Bond in place. The silicone of the Bond is quite stretchy too, so it will fit most sizes. I’m quite thick and it fits me fine for instance.

There’s a second clip that comes with the Bond that you can use if you have a slightly girthy penis or just want a more comfortable fit. I use this second clip and that size is ideal for me. With the second clip, the cock ring is tight enough to keep the Bond on my penis without it being so tight that it would force me to take it off after only a short time. Which leads me to my next point…

It’s possible for me to keep the We Vibe Bond on for longer than other vibrating rings

Using the second Bond clip to make the ring wider, I can and have kept the Bond on for over an hour. This isn’t usually possible for me because my penis is thick and I find many vibrating cock rings tight. The Bond has been designed for discrete public tease play, so it’s sort of important that one can keep it on for longer.

Just to be clear though, you should still test the We-Vibe Bond several times for maximum 20 minutes just to test if it’s loose enough on you. You don’t want to be cutting off the circulation to your penis too long, because that can do damage. If you feel like you can go longer like me, great.

The plastic clip fastening system is safer than pure elastic fits

Most cock rings just work from the elasticity of the silicone that they’re made of. The Bond has a plastic clip and it’s really easy to detach it, which means if you need to remove the ring quickly, you can. The clip closes in a diagonal direction, so to open it you just need to slip your finger and thumb around the clip and pull it diagonally slightly. For me it’s easy both to fasten and unfasten it.

What about orgasms and pleasure with the We-Vibe Bond?

The most important thing to remember with the We-Vibe Bond is that it is best at teasing. For me, the We-Vibe Bond is a toy I would use during extended foreplay or discrete public play rather than a toy I’d use during sex or masturbation. If your main goal is to use a cock ring during sex or masturbation, the We-Vibe Bond isn’t the best choice.

The real pleasure that the We-Vibe Bond offers for me is DURING tease play and foreplay. For instance, Eve and I used this while playing Monogamy (a sexy board game we often use on date nights). I gave Eve the remote and throughout the game, she toyed with me and made me SUPER horny. When we started having sex, I kept the Bond on but wasn’t really focusing on it. It’s quite subtle. The build up and all the teasing made my orgasm very strong though.

Physically however, the Bond is not remarkable. Again, the main attraction with the Bond is the possibility to use it discretely in public and the ability to tease a partner before sex.

My solo experiences with the We-Vibe Bond

With all the cock rings I own, I only ever use them during sex or when I’m about to be with a partner. The We-Vibe Bond has changed that. While I have been reviewing the We-Vibe Bond, I’ve actually used it more during the day when I’m alone. Here’s how I use it… I put it on at home and go about my life for a few hours. Now and again, I switch on the toy and tease myself with it. At times, I’ve kept it to a low rumble and just enjoyed the sensation.

It’s a really bizarre but pleasurable experience to be using the We-Vibe Bond. I’m not always in the head-space of sex while using it. I often just enjoy the sensation, as though I was having a very mild massage. Inevitably though, when I DO think of something relating to sex or desire, I get very horny while wearing the We-Vibe Bond. I’d be lying if I was to insinuate that I never stop what I’m doing to masturbate because of the toy!

When I masturbate during the day while using the We-Vibe Bond, I usually keep the toy on. Either I masturbate with my hands or I use another toy. The We-Vibe Bond would never be strong enough to make me orgasm just from the stimulation that gives alone, even at the higher vibration intensities.

How loud is the We-Vibe Bond?

If you’re planning on using the We-Vibe Bond underneath your clothes in public, you’ll be relieved to know that the vibration motor in it is reasonably quiet. It certainly gives a mild rumble and buzz at the highest intensity, but you’d never be at risk of someone overhearing that at a restaurant, with all the ambient noise around you etc. Overall, I’m quite impressed with the noise level of the Bond.

To give you an idea of the noise that the toy makes, here’s a video. Keep in mind that the camera is right in front of the toy and at times, I have it vibrating on a hard surface. Towards the end of the video when I pick it up again, you’ll hear how quiet it actually is when in contact with skin. In the video, I also show how easy it is to unfasten the plastic clip.

What do the vibrations of the We-Vibe Bond feel like?

The vibrations of the We-Vibe Bond are what I’d describe as medium in intensity. At its lowest level, the Bond gives a very subtle rumble around the immediate area it sits (at the base of the penis, testicles and perineum). On its highest vibration setting, the Bond’s vibrations penetrate a little more deeply and can cause me to have erections. It isn’t so intense that I can’t NOT have erections though. It’s a subtle toy.

The vibrations are on the rumbly side rather than being buzzy, meaning that their quality is higher and they don’t make the skin numb etc.

The Bond has ten in-built vibration patterns. With that many vibration patterns, I’m not personally feeling the need to dig into the app settings to create new patterns. However if you do decide to use the We-Vibe app on your phone to control the toy, you can create your own patterns, which is a bonus!

What about the battery life and remote control range of the Bond?

At two hours, the battery life of the We-Vibe Bond is very sufficient. It takes an hour and a half to fully charge. Two hours is a very long time to be wearing a cock ring, so that’s more than enough battery life for me.

The physical remote control of the Bond connects to it via bluetooth and it has varying ranges. If you are in the same room as your partner and they point the remote directly at you, they can be up to around 9 metres away (30 foot). If they’re in the same room as you and aren’t pointing it directly at you, that range can decrease to 6 metres (20 foot). The real limitation of the connection will be if there are obstacles like walls or big tables etc between you and your partner. Depending on the objects in front of the remote, the range will differ slightly.

Eve and I didn’t do scientific tests to verify all of this (which I have taken from the technical specifications) but we also didn’t have any problems using the remote in most situations. The only issue we encountered while testing (which is a technical limitation of the physical remote) is that when one of us is at the other end of our home, several walls away, the physical remote stops controlling the Bond.

Long distance control

For longer distance control or you want your partner to remote control the Bond from a different country, that’s also possible using the We-Vibe app. To use the We-Vibe app for long distance play, both you and your partner need an internet connection.

Jumping in the bath with the We-Vibe Bond?

The We-Vibe Bond is completely waterproof, so you can jump in the bath or shower while wearing it without an issue. I haven’t personally used it in the bath because I don’t really enjoy using sex toys in the bath (unlike my girlfriend who loves it). I can attest to the waterproofing of the Bond though, because when I wash it I hold it directly under the running tap while rubbing it with soap.

Just be aware that while the Bond itself is completely waterproof, the remote control is not. The remote control is only splash proof, so don’t ever put it into a body of water.

In conclusion of my review of the We-Vibe Bond

The We-Vibe Bond is certainly a unique cock ring! The unfortunate thing about it is that it will probably be misunderstood by many people who will be expecting it to behave like a normal cock ring. It wouldn’t be my first port of call for a vibrating cock ring, because it isn’t as strong as others when I use it during sex. However when it comes to tease play and public play, the Bond gets really very interesting. It’s also a cock ring that someone might appreciate if they already have other strong vibrating cock rings (as I do).

In comparison to the We-Vibe Verge (another We-Vibe cock ring I own), the Bond is less intense and doesn’t stimulate my partner as much. By contrast though, I personally find the Bond WAY more fun to use than the Verge. The Verge for me is difficult to put on and I can’t keep it on for very long. The Bond is fun because it allows me to dip my toe into public play, an area that has in the past been more the domain of my girlfriend.

Is the We-Vibe Bond a bit too expensive? Maybe a bit expensive, yes. We are talking about We-Vibe here though, which is a luxury sex toy brand and the vibration motors are usually top notch. The Bond’s vibration motor is certainly up there in terms of quality and so is the product itself. It’s a luxury sex toy and it does merit a high price tag. HOWEVER, I’m not sure many will want to spend so much on a cock ring that is mainly for teasing rather than for sex. I may be wrong, but for me it’s worth pointing out. If your priorities are not in tease play, the Bond will seem very expensive. If you’re very interested in discrete public play or day-time wear, the Bond will be more worth the price.

One thing that does bother me about the Bond is its colour. I’m not a fan of black for silicone sex toys. We-Vibe usually choose brighter colours than this and I think it would be worth producing the Bond in another colour other than black.

I’m giving the Bond 6.5/10 because I think it will be misunderstood by some people and there are areas where it can improve. Overall though, the Bond is a nice refreshing take on the idea of a cock ring! We-Vibe has showed me that cock rings don’t always have to be about sex, hard erections and stimulating a partner. They can also be used for teasing and more massage type applications. If you’ve read this review all the way to the end, I’m confident you can make your choice on the Bond without needing to focus on scores! The Bond is very good at what it promises to do but it’s important to understand what it’s not a typical ring with typical uses.

Update Apr 2022: You can now buy extra clips for the We Vibe Bond to enlarge the diameter of the ring even further. Very good if you’re larger than average!
