The Love Royal dildo by SelfDelve is a little work of art. But is it as good as it is beautiful? 😉
This toy was sent to me by SelfDelve for free in return for an honest review. Affiliate links are present in this post and I really appreciate your support when you use them!
First Impressions of the Love-Royal dildo by SelfDelve
I was enthusiastic at the idea of testing a dildo by SelfDelve, a German company that produce what resembles art more than sex toys! They have a number of pretty nice models that cover various themes (fruits and vegetables, rainbows, candy, sculptures…). Their dildos have amazing colours (some of which change with temperature)… their website is a seduction for the eyes.
To choose a model to test was difficult because everything looks so good. In the end I went for the Love – Royal dildo from SelfDelve’s sculpture collection. It looks so beautiful and has temperature-sensitive paint (changes colour when hot or cold).
On receiving the Love Royal, I was already seduced by it. The dildo is sent in a metal cylinder box that looks silver. It’s really discrete and could easily pass for a box of tea. The sex toy is wrapped in black paper inside and a small sachet of water-based lube. Everything is very elegant and on the side of the box it says “handmade with love“, reminding us that this is an artisan product. Indeed every dildo by SelfDelve is poured and painted by hand.
In the box you’ll also find a little booklet on the other collections of SelfDelve as well as information on the products. Information such as the silicone of these toys is medical grade, the pigments are non-toxic and how they can also custom make your dildo!
Now onto the dildo itself. The Love-Royal is like a precious stone. The colours are beautiful! In the cold (room temperature), it has a swirling texture of blue, white and gold. In the warm (eg your body), the Love Royal becomes white and gold. Depending on the extremity of the temperature, it can take a few minutes to a few seconds to change colour. It is really a beautiful object!
It stays upright well and has almost the silhouette of a woman, the tip corresponds to the head, then the chest, hips and feet. The dildo has a certain weight in hand that gives me an impression of solidity without exhausting my wrist.
And once again it’s a joy to watch it change colour as I pass it under warm or cold water (or inside and outside of my body). It does this thanks to the thermochromic pigments in the paint, which should last at least 2 years. SelfDelve informed us that the pigments are the same kind that are used in colour changing spoons that some people buy for babies. Perhaps needless to say, the pigments are non-toxic and are very safe.
While using the dildo, you’ll perhaps not be able to appreciate the colour changes yourself so much. Except if you sit in front of a mirror of course, which could be fun 😉 Adam enjoyed watching the colours changing while I used it.
Video of the Love Royal Dildo
Here is a video demonstration of the Love Royal changing colours. We tested it by placing it in warm water first and then putting it in cold water to allow the colours to return to their original pigment.
Now then… on to the experience of using the dildo itself.
Experience of the Love-Royal dildo by SelfDelve
No need for me to state the obvious, we all know how to use a dildo. This one doesn’t have a suction-cup base (but you can have one customised that way if you wish). This usual model of the Love-Royal needs to be used in hand though.
Its generous forms give a delcious internal stimulation. The progressive enlargement of the curves and nodules permit a sort of game while using it. Nothing more exciting for me than a penetration slow that forces me to wait.
We begin by lubricating the dildo with a water-based lubricant (always water-based for silicone). We introduce the head of the toy with a small diameter of 2.5cm, we tease and tickle. Then we push a little and arrive at the second portion of the dildo which is 3cm in diamter. The heat begins to rise, the respiration changes and we feel the head progress inside the vagina. Then we push more and receive the third portion of the dildo, which is 4.5cm in diamter. It’s delicious. We have that sublime sensation of being filled and profoundly penetrated. The silicone is soft, it glides, it pushes and moves to the rythym of the wrist and breath. I find it really exciting.
What I prefer most is to use the Love-Royal in the bath. It’s in my bath that I prefer to use dildos in general actually because it’s a context that works well. I am already laid down, am totally relaxed and am submerged by warm water. It’s exactly the place you’d want for using this sex toy, which lends itself more to eroticism and excitation of the senses, rather than forcing orgasm at all costs. The Love Royal is perfect for the bath, especially as it changes colour in warm water.
When I want to climax hard, I go directly for a toy like a vibrator or Womanizer. I don’t use dildos so much for this. For me personally, a dildo is a sex toy for slow pleasure, visual stimulation and for teasing. It isn’t a ‘sex toy of orgasms’. In using a dildo like this with a partner, it needs to be used according to the mood.
Partner Play
If you want a quickie or a hard/rough session, I don’t recommend the Love Royal. In part because I don’t think it will send you to the moon and back very rapidly. Another reason is because if it is used too ferociously, it can hurt a bit. That was the case for me in any case. If it is used too forcefully or quickly, I felt the head a little too aggressively, like I had a point pushing into me.
On the other hand, if the mood is for you to play slowly or tease then using the Love Royal is the jackpot! Not only for you but for your partner too. Adam took a lot of pleasure in observing the Love-Royal penetrating my vagina slowly, the three different sized sections of the dildo entering me. And the changing colours!
This dildo is also good for a BDSM session. Imagine being attached to the bed, eyes banded and at the merci of your partner to glide this dildo over your body, teasing you until getting to your vagina… hot hot hot!!
Cleaning the Love-Royal by SelfDelve
The Love-Royal is super easy to clean. It’s enough to to rinse it, apply sex toy cleaner and voila you’re done. Be careful to put it back in its box though because otherwise you’ll get dust stuck to it. Well known is that silicone loves dust particles!
The advantage of the box is that you can leave it anywhere really. Nobody would suspect that there is a sex toy inside it. The box is a little less transportable than a satin bouch though, so you could buy one of those if you needed to take it on holiday or for a night away from home.
Conclusion
SelfDelve really merits being more well known because they are revolutionising the dildo. In their hands, the sex toy becomes an object inconspicuous, creative and artistic. The use of thermochromatic pigments permits us to play with the colours of our sex toys. A delice for the eyes but that isn’t it. The design of the Love-Royal lends itself perfectly to solo masturbation, especially in a warm bath. It also works well in slow, sensual couple play. It isn’t so suitable for really hardcore play, because the small head of the toy could hurt if it is moved inside you too rapidly.
It’s very simple to clean and is delivered in a discrete and pretty box. It’s a beautiful addition to my collection! Rest assured that in my opinion, this toy is really worth its price. It depends on your point of view. If your goal is to have loads of different dildos and don’t really need them to all be amazing, maybe spending so much isn’t worth it. However if prefer to have only 2 or 3 dildos that are all exceptionel, this one is good for you! Don’t forget that you’re also paying for the hand-made aspect of this dildo, an artisan makes every one.
