Review: Glow-in-the-dark bondage gear (Lovehoney)

Alright folks, time to get kinky! Today I have the pleasure of reviewing some glow in the dark bondage gear from Lovehoney’s ‘Bondage Boutique’ range. These products are actually sold separately but I will be reviewing them all here together today because I think that most people will be interested in buying them as a set anyway. Whether you want some glow-in-the-dark handcuffs, paddles, whips, ball-gags, blindfold or a collar and lead… this review is going to be of interest to you!

General comments about Lovehoney’s Glow-In-The-Dark bondage gear

Before I get into the individual reviews of each of Lovehoney’s glow-in-the-dark bondage items, I have some general comments that apply to all of the items. As you can see from the score here, we liked the set quite a lot. You should still read our individual reviews of each item below though because we enjoyed some more than others.

All of Lovehoney / Bondage Boutique’s glow-in-the-dark bondage gear is made from faux-leather and is therefore vegan friendly. I’m not personally vegan but I do actually appreciate the fact that this isn’t made from real leather. Eve and I have another pair of bondage cuffs and those are made from red leather. To be honest, the comfort of that leather is comparable with this fake leather, so that is already quite a good thing. More about the cuffs later though!

The glow-in-the-dark bonage gear itself looks very classy and elegant (this is both my impression and Eve’s). The packaging it arrives in isn’t so great (it’s just in thin plastic sacks) but when you consider the very low price of this bondage gear, that can easily be forgiven.

The bondage gear glows quite impressively actually. I took all of it into our bedroom and turned the lights off and BAM… sexy bondage glowing action (see the image up top of this review – looks good right??). It can take a few moments for your eyes to adjust to the darkness (and therefore the glowing), so be sure to wait a few minutes to see the full extent of how this bondage gear glows. I was personally quite impressed by how much it glows… for me it’s just the right amount. However if you put a slightly dim lamp on, the glowing effect goes down considerably. With some very light fairy lights, it still glows quite a lot though, so I’m personally happy with it.

The stitching of all the bondage gear I got from this glow-in-the-dark set is actually pretty well done. There aren’t any big problems with it. I checked all of it and there are a few small areas where they’ve done things like had a small area of double stitches or a place where one of the stitch holes is slightly too big (so is therefore visible). Honestly though, when we reflect on the price of this bondage gear, the stitching is of a very acceptable quality.

A few times while I’ve had this bondage gear, parts of it got caught in my bedroom drawers because I’m a bit clumsy when I put things away sometimes. In those cases, when I got the bondage gear back out again there were some small visible creases in the false leather. It hasn’t bothered me though and hasn’t actually damaged the visual elegance or the function of them.

Review of glow in the dark wrist cuffs

Of all the glow-in-the-dark bondage gear that Eve and I received from Lovehoney, the glow-in-the-dark wrist cuffs are our favourite! We really enjoy using handcuffs in bed because cuffs are just so easy to grab and use quickly during sex.

What I really appreciate about these glow-in-the-dark wrist cuffs is that it is IMPOSSIBLE for Eve to slip out of them accidentally. With other cuffs we’ve had in the past (such as the red leather ones I mentioned), the gap even at the smallest cuff size has been too large and Eve has ended up slipping out of them. With these Glow-In-The-Dark wrist cuffs, there are 8 buckle holes that mean the circumference can range from 8 to 12 inches (20.32cm – 30.48cm). This is a great range of size that I’m fairly sure will suit most people. Even when I put them on, the size is perfect for me.

The wrist cuffs are really comfortable too. One thing that is sometimes a problem with real leather cuffs is that they can have a sharp and tough edge to them. With these faux leather cuffs, the edge is quite soft so when Eve pulls on them a bit, it doesn’t hurt her skin. She is left with some very light marks from where pressure was put on her skin while she pulled on the cuffs… but nothing bad. Much better than the other cuffs we have.

So yep, our review of the glow-in-the-dark wrist cuffs is very positive. We highly recommend them! Another thing I didn’t already mention is that these cuffs will be large enough for most people’s ankles too… so they’re quite versatile.

We score these cuffs 9/10 because we like them so much.

Review of the glow-in-the-dark collar and lead

Eve and I aren’t honestly into collar and lead play very much. We nevertheless tested the collar and lead just to see its quality. Like the glow-in-the-dark wrist cuffs, the collar and lead is very comfortable and has quite versatile sizing (it has 7 buckles and adjusts to fit most necks). The collar’s length is 20.5 inches which is about 52 cm.

The lead itself is made from metal and is 35.5 inches long (90cm). The length is really ideal for bedroom play because it’s long enough to have some fun but not so long that you’ll be tripping over the metal lead.

Overall, if you’re into collar-and-lead play with your bondage sessions I recommend you get this glow-in-the-dark one! Pet play / humiliation / slave-play isn’t something that Eve and I do but I think for people who like that kind of thing, this collar and lead will be very fun… particularly because it glows in the dark too.

Review of the Bondage Boutique glow-in-the-dark paddle

There isn’t a whole lot for me to say about the glow in the dark paddle that Lovehoney sells other than it’s very fun and comfortable! Comfortable is a strange word to use for something that one uses to hit another person… but it is! For me it’s the ideal size for my hand and when I smack Eve’s bottom with this, it doesn’t cut her skin or do anything too nasty. It just gives her a little thrill and some slight pleasure-pain if I use more force. Overall we really like it.

The Glow-In-The-Dark paddle is 6.5 x 2.4 inches (16.5 x 6cm). Like I said, it’s an ideal size for mine and most people’s hands. It also has a wrist loop made of a satin-like material that will come in handy to stop the paddle slipping out of your reach.

We’re giving the Glow-In-The-Dark paddle 7/10.

Review of the glow-in-the-dark Flogger

The glow-in-the-dark flogger from Lovehoney’s Bondage Boutique line is pretty nice too. Unlike the paddle which I reviewed just above, this flogger has more of a ‘whip’ effect. When I smack Eve’s bottom with the flogger, it leaves her with more of a ‘sting’ than with a wallop. I hope that makes sense! So if you like the idea of more of a sharp, quick sensation of pleasure-pain.. the flogger is what you’ll want.

The pattern of the handle is pretty nice, with swirling black and glow-in-the-dark white. Very elegant. Apparently the flogger itself is made of 21 strands, though I have to admit… I didn’t count them all to check 😉

The handle is 6.5 inches (16.5cm), which is a very nice length to hold onto and the strands that make up the flogger are 12 inches long (about 30.5cm). To be honest, I’d have preferred it if the strands were slightly longer, so that I can stand further away while I do my flogging. It’s not a big deal though and again, we have to consider the price (which is pretty low).

All in all we really like the flogger and give it 7/10.

Review of Bondage Boutique’s glow-in-the-dark blindfold

The glow-in-the-dark blindfold was Eve’s least favourite item from the bondage stuff we received from Lovehoney. When I put it on Eve she immediately told me that “it feels too tight”. I tried it on myself afterwards and didn’t personally think it was too tight, even though my head is bigger than Eve’s. I think it’s just different sensibilities, it will be good for some people but not for others. Unfortunately, the glow-in-the-dark blindfold doesn’t have any adjustment straps so if you don’t like the size, you can’t change it.

I measured the circumference of the blindfold’s interior and got about 18.7 inches (47.5cm). That isn’t super exact and it is made with elastic material so will stretch to much bigger than this. However the more it stretches, the tighter it feels obviously. So just keep in mind that this will work for some people but not others!

I found the interior texture of the blindfold quite comfortable on my skin and it blocked enough of my vision to make it fun to use during a bondage session.

Overall we give the blindfold 6/10. Eve didn’t like it but I did.

Review of the glow-in-the-dark silicone ball gag

Eve and I don’t normally use ball gags, so it was quite fun to test another one out. Bondage Boutique’s silicone ball gag is far more comfortable than the other one we’ve tried before. We both tried the ball-gag on and each of us agrees that it’s very comfortable. Eve was the one to wear it for longer, because she kept it on while having sex. She says that it feels comfortable throughout, so we have no probs with comfort.

The length of the strap is 24 inches (60cm) so will again be comfortable for most folks. The circumference of the silicone ball is 5.5 inches (14cm) which is a diameter (width) of 1.75 inches (4.44 cm). 1.75 inches feels like quite large between the teeth but it isn’t too big in my opinion. When the ball slips behind the teeth it feels quite manageable to both Eve and I.

The only downside to this toy for me is that it’s a bit of a pain that the silicone ball doesn’t detach from it. When you use a ball gag, you’ll drool everywhere, so the ball especially needs to be washed. It would be easier to clean if the ball detached. Not too much of a big deal though, just something to be aware of.

Overall we give the silicone ball gag 7/10.

Conclusion of our review of Bondage Boutique’s Glow-In-The-Dark bondage set

I hope you enjoyed our review of this bondage set! I used a bit of a different review format this time because there were so many individual items to this set that I needed to review. Overall we’re big fans of the Bondage Boutique glow-in-the-dark Bondage set from Lovehoney. We’d recommend all of it apart from the blindfold, which will work for some people or not others. An idea if you’re concerned about the blindfold’s comfort is to get a satin one from Lovehoney instead. Eve and I have a satin one and it’s really comfortable.

So! If you want a beginner friendly bondage set that glows in the dark, go check out Lovehoney’s glow-in-the-dark bondage gear. It’s really reasonably priced, so you can’t go wrong really.

For us, if you only buy a few of these items, the ideal set is:

• The cuffs
• The ball gag
• The paddle
