Review: Vector Prostate Vibrator by We-Vibe

Back in 2019 I received the We-Vibe Vector for the first time, a wearable prostate massager that works via bluetooth and comes with a remote. It’s rumbly, it’s flexible, it’s a nice colour… but has it been left in the past? Does the We-Vibe Vector still compare to today’s prostate massagers? I’m going to be telling you everything in this We-Vibe Vector and review and comparison. A rewrite based on 2022’s standards.

Why did I like the We-Vibe Vector in 2019 so much anyway?

Don’t feel like I’m spoiling the review here for you but I REALLY liked the We-Vibe Vector in 2019. It was one of my favourites and I actually gave it 9.7/10 on my appleometre. That’s a pretty high score for this website, because if I don’t like something, I say so.

So before I get deeper into the review, let’s reflect on why in 2019 the We-Vibe Vector seemed like such a great toy to me. I’ll keep this bit brief because it’s more important how the Vector measures up by today’s standards.

The question is… do these pros and cons of the We-Vibe Vector still apply? In my reevaluation of it, will the We-Vibe Vector gain more sucky points, or has time ripened this old classic? Well, dear reader, read on to find out.

The We Vibe Vector rumbles? What does that mean?

If you’re new to searching for vibrating toys that go where the sun doesn’t shine, you may not have heard the term rumbly before. When sex toy testers like me say that a vibrator is rumbly, that’s a very good thing. The We-Vibe Vector was the rumbliest prostate toy I had tested back in 2019. That isn’t the case anymore but it still provides enough rumble to merit a distinction in the vibration department.

The opposite style of vibrations to what the Vector has

What is the opposite of rumbly vibrations? Buzzy vibrations. Even though I’m a very diplomatic and British chap, I don’t know anybody who says they prefer buzzy vibrations over rumbly ones. Buzzy vibration motors are those that you find in bad corner-shop, basement bargain vibrators. Buzzy vibration motors are high frequency and the stimulation doesn’t penetrate very much further than the surface of your skin.

Some buzzy prostate vibrators I’ve tried aren’t as good, for example the Nexus Stealth buzzes too much and that’s why it doesn’t score as highly as other toys I have on this website.

Rumbly vibrators are better and the We-Vibe Vector is rumbly

Rumbly vibration motors are lower frequency but the stimulation penetrates deeper. Your prostate is hidden inside your body and your butt is the easiest way to it (look in my guide here for a diagram). What I’m saying is, the deeper vibrations penetrate, the more your prostate is going to feel it.

I mentioned before that the Vector is no longer the rumbliest vibrator that I own. For me, the Loki Wave feels more rumbly than the Vector does and overall I prefer the Loki Wave now because it’s more intense. Don’t go click, clicking away just yet though dear reader, because the Loki Wave is more for intermediate to advanced folks (the diameter is larger and not suitable for beginners). Unlike the Vector, it also isn’t wearable, meaning no public play.

What about the Edge 2? Is it better than the We-Vibe Vector?

If you’ve encountered me elsewhere on the net, you’ve maybe heard me compare the Vector to the Edge 2, which is another very similar prostate toy. I tested the Vector for the first time in 2019 whereas I tested the Edge 2 in 2021. Only two years apart but at the time I wrote my Edge 2 review, its app was better and the extra thickness in diameter etc gave it a little bit more oomph.

The thing for me is, the Edge isn’t as aesthetic as the We Vibe Vector but it feels really good. The Lovense app works better than We-Vibe’s and it has more options / features. So if you’re a high tech kind of person, maybe you’re going to appreciate the Edge/Edge 2 more.

The We-Vibe Vector in comparison isn’t quite as powerful but there’s not much in it. The area where it does better than the Edge 2 is in its look, diameter and physical remote. The We-Vibe Vector looks way better in my opinion, with its sleek blue and minimalist style. The Vector is also a better diameter for beginners, because it’s slightly slimmer. Finally, you just can’t beat a physical remote in my opinion. Sex toys often become too complicated and if I’m honest, I prefer using a simple physical remote to messing around with my phone.

There’s no doubt about it though, if you also own or plan to own other Lovense toys, the Vector isn’t going to win this battle. The app for Lovense toys allows you to sync them together and it still works very reliably, so you probably won’t pick the Vector if you’re already in the Lovense ecosystem.

So beginners to prostate massage can use the We-Vibe Vector?

The Vector is a fairly manageable size. It’s insertable length is 4 inches and it’s diameter is 1.11 inches. That makes it slightly bigger than the Nexus Revo Slim and smaller than the Lovense Edge 2. In my opinion, the Vector is suitable for beginners to prostate massage. The Vector is quite flexible so can mould to your body’s shape, which I really appreciate. The neck of the insertable part of the toy is very slightly bendy so that it can adapt to your body.

I don’t recommend toys of more than 1.3 inches in diameter to beginners and at around one inch in diameter, the Vector is in the sweet spot. Some beginners have found the Vector a little bit on the thick side however, so it’s not guaranteed that you’ll feel comfortable with it straight away. My best advice for beginners is to make sure you buy a good lube and also consider buying a small set of beginner training butt plugs to loosen yourself up with. It’s not just about loosening yourself up, it’s about getting used to something up your butt.

What lube should you use with the We-Vibe Vector?

The Vector is a silicone toy, so to be on the safe side, you should use only water-based lube with it. My favourite lube to use is S-Liquid Sassy because it has a bit of extra thickness for anal play. I know the bottle is pink and some of you don’t like pink but… trust me, the lube is good. If you don’t like the label just peel it off.

What about the battery life, the noise and all that good stuff?

The rechargeable battery of the Vector

The battery life of the Vector is about 2 hours depending on usage. Overall I’ve been satisfied with the battery life. Be careful because in some languages on the We-Vibe website, the Vector’s battery life is listed differently (probably a translation error). After three years of me using the We-Vibe Vector, the battery life is still great. I haven’t done a recent stress test but it still lasts more than long enough for me to have a few prostate massage sessions out of it. Not all batteries last this long, so it’s good in that area.

As you may already know, the Vector is rechargeable. You simply plug the USB connection into an adapter and then wait for it to charge. The connection to the toy is magnetic, so unfortunately you can’t use the We Vibe Vector while it charges. Other toys are a bit better for mains power use, for example the Loki Wave which works perfectly while it charges.

How much noise does the We-Vibe Vector make?

The Vector doesn’t make a huge amount of noise for a vibrator that is so rumbly and powerful. I don’t know how We-Vibe did it but they really did great in this area. Below I’ve prepared a video where I show the toy and turn it on. In the background you can hear my cat’s water fountain. The vibrator’s noise is so reasonable that you can’t really hear it over the water fountain. I call this… the We Vibe Vector water fountain test!

Inside the box you get the Vector, a remote control with four buttons, a white storage pouch, a charging cable and an instruction booklet. You can see the unboxing in this video.

There are two vibration motors in the toy, one for the prostate gland and another for the perineum. Both of the vibration motors feel rumbly and powerful, yet the toy itself is fairly quiet. There are 10 vibration modes built into the toy, with the option of adding more via the smartphone app.

What does the We Vibe Vector feel like inside?

Inserting the We-Vibe Vector

The size of the Vector isn’t the smallest you’ll find (1.11 inches in diameter), yet its design is so well thought out and sleak that it will easily follow the contours of your body.

Let’s start at the beginning of the experience with the Vector, insertion. Ever since I originally got the toy several years ago, it’s always been very easy for me personally to use. What I mean is, it’s easy to insert the We Vibe Vector. The flexible neck of the toy means it bends and moves to the anatomy of different people’s body and from my pretty extensive experience with prostate massagers, flexible neck toys are usually a bit more comfortable like this one. I still use a good amount of water-based anal lube (often S-Liquid Sassy) but the Vector easily slides in without giving me any pain or discomfort.

Total beginners may need to take their time and go slow with it but most readers and customers I hear about haven’t had an issue with the Vector. It’s diameter is fairly slim so many people will already be able to handle it. To be on the safe side, you could get a cheap set of silicone butt plugs or an anal starter kit to practice with first. If you just get one practice butt plug, choose one of about 1 inch in diameter (make sure it has a flared base and that it’s made out of silicone).

How the vibrations of the We-Vibe Vector feel

After insertion, it’s easy to find the embossed button on the bottom of the toy to switch on the vibrations (it can also be switched on via the physical remote or phone app).

The vibration modes are exceptionally good. The play between the two different vibration motors in the We Vibe Vector work extremely well. The pattern vibration modes are my favourite, though the toy also has constant vibration modes. I love the way the patterns switch between prostate and perineum stimulation. I’ve had this thing for years and still didn’t get bored with the vibration modes.

The build up to orgasm with the Vector is slow, like with all prostate massagers I have tried. With the Vector, I don’t have to touch my penis as much. Partly because the vibration modes on their own feel great and partly because the perineum stimulation is so good. Although several toys I’ve tried before have good perineum stimulation, few of them have got it as right as We-Vibe has. The only toy I can think of right now that got it a bit better is the Loki Wave, but again, that one is more for intermediate folks because of the larger diameter (my review of it is here).

How orgasms feel when using the We Vibe Vector

After using the Vector on its own for awhile, I masturbated normally but stopped before orgasm. Then I let the Vector take me over the edge on its own. The orgasm is really intense and has me occasionally shaking with pleasure The vibrations feel so good and the toy is so flexible that I can leave it inside after I orgasm without it feeling awkward or painful. For this, the Vector gets a massive thumbs up from me. To put that last comment into context, some vibrating sex toys can be too intense just after orgasm and cause discomfort, the rumbly nature of the vibrations from the We Vibe Vector prevent that, which I really appreciate!

The Vector also remembers what vibration mode you were on last time you used the toy, so you can pick up right where you left off without having to cycle through all of the vibration modes. That memory mode is something others I’ve tried haven’t got (including the Edge 2).

We-Vibe Vector: The choice between a physical remote and phone app

The physical remote works well with the toy (you have to hold the left arrow down for 5 seconds to activate it, after you turn on the toy). That’s the way I prefer the toy during sex (not with the app). I’m a bit old school with my toys and although I like smart functionality when it works well, simple is often better for my taste. That all said though, if you want the long distance fun and app control, the Vector has it!

The smart features: Using the We Vibe Vector for long distance sex

In the We Vibe app (We Connect – available on iOS and Android) you can set up long distance remote control and create your own vibration patterns. The app allows couples who live far away from each other to enjoy intimate moments together and the vibration pattern creation can be cool for those who like tweaking and personalising things.

Back in 2019, We-Vibe’s app used to have some issues (which I wrote about in the original version of this review). Now the app has been through a few updates, so let me show you how to use the We Vibe Vector with the app for some different things.

As for me, I don’t care much about the app because I have the physical remote control. Personally, I have little need to pair the device to my phone. Yet for other people who need long distance control etc, We-Vibe need to sort that app issue out. Particularly now that the Edge 2 is giving the Vector some stiff competition.

Partner Play with the We-Vibe Vector

Another thing that We-Vibe got right about the Vector is its compatibility with having sex. Its shape works perfectly for me. That bulbous head and narrow end on the prostate end of the toy help keep the toy in place. My main complaint with other prostate toys is that they haven’t been very compatible with sex for various reasons. The Vector is perfect in that regard.

I can walk around with the Vector in and it doesn’t drop on the floor, which I’m pretty damn happy about. Likewise, when Eve and I have sex, I can use the Vector without fearing it will fall out. This is a big deal, because it means I can enjoy the sensations on my prostate gland while having sex. If you dear reader are more adventurous than me, perhaps you’ll even manage a short walk around the block with the Vector buzzing at your prostate. Just don’t get stopped and keep your remote control close to hand if you do.

The shape and flexibility of the Vector also means that no matter what position I’m in, it never feels painful. Toy pressing against the mattress? No problem because this toy bends to accommodate that. There is enough give in the silicone to allow this without losing its rigidity.

All of this and I haven’t even mentioned the remote control or smartphone app. The ability for remote control access allows your partner to turn on the vibrator and play with you without them having to touch the toy. This is great for oral sex or discrete public play. It’s also a very nice way for your partner to play with your prostate for the first time if you’re a little anxious of them touching you ‘down there’.

As I mentioned in my review of the Edge 2, I quite dislike the idea of using smart phone apps during sex. It’s too complicated and I can’t be arsed with unlocking my phone etc to get that stuff working. The fact that the We-Vibe Vector has a physical remote is really stand out in that regard and they should really keep the remote when they inevitably do a second generation of the Vector in the years to come.

So in short… this toy is great for sex with your partner.

The appearance etc of the We Vibe Vector

Whereas other toys like the Lovense Edge 2 look a bit ugly because of the colour, the We-Vibe Vector is blue and looks beautiful. Blue is good, I like blue. Blue is the sky, the ocean, it’s relaxation. I really like the colour of the Vector. Even the little satin pouch it comes in is white. It looks so much better than most other prostate toys I’ve tried. It’s not quite up there in terms of beauty when I compare it with the Pure Wand I reviewed… but that’s a different kind of prostate toy 🙂

The We-Vibe Vector is sleak, modern and the colour is perfect. As always, We-Vibe packaged this toy with equally stunning aesthetics. The box itself has stunning packaging / graphic design. What amazes me the most is that We-Vibe aren’t following the crowd with their branding for these kinds of toys. What I often see with other prostate and penis toys is macho, race-car or technology style designs. We Vibe knows that not all of us who play with our prostates need things to remind us of car mechanics.

The We Vibe Vector has a gender neutral appearance. The toy is specifically for stimulating the prostate gland, yet Eve would be equally happy if a toy of her’s looked like this. Even without a prostate, someone could enjoy using the We Vibe Vector purely because of it’s intense and rumbly vibrations. Anyway, just to say… this could sit in anyone’s bedroom drawer without it feeling out of place.

How to clean the We Vibe Vector

The silicone is smooth and doesn’t drag or stick too much when I run my fingers across it. Dust isn’t as much of a problem with the Vector. The colour helps hide some dust but the silicone they’ve used doesn’t attract it as much anyway.

When cleaning the Vector after use, I really appreciate the sleek design and the non-draggy silicone. Some toys make the mistake of having lots of complicated contours and corners, which traps water, lube etc and makes them difficult to clean. The Vector doesn’t have a complicated shape so it’s both easy to wash and dry. Time is precious, so little design things like this is what makes the Vector so attractive even this many years after its original release.

Simply wash the Vector with some soap and dry it off. You can use sex toy cleaning spray if you want but it isn’t absolutely necessary. To clean most silicone sex toys like the We Vibe Vector, I usually just use warm water and a mild soap like Dove. After the toy dries you can put it back inside its white satin pouch and it will keep dust free.

In conclusion of my We Vibe Vector review

What’s more to say? The We-Vibe Vector is an almost perfect prostate toy. I love this thing. For me a new benchmark was set with this toy. I don’t think I can go back to a single motor prostate vibrator and still be happy. I recommend this toy 110%. It’s not as expensive as some of its competitors and it’s better than many them. Beginner and experienced user alike should be happy with the We-Vibe Vector.

The only thing is, now it’s 2022. I originally wrote this review and the above conclusion in 2019. So how does the Vector stack up now? Well I’d still say it’s a near perfect toy. The app really needs to be improved for this toy if it is to stand the test of time against competitors like the Lovense Edge 2. I’ve also tried bigger toys than this since my 2019 review, so the Vector now doesn’t fill me like it used to. However it is still MORE than enough for prostate massage. Seriously, bigger is not always better. I will say that I have a slight preference for the Edge 2, purely because that toy is a little thicker and has a tiny bit more power. However the We-Vibe Vector is still a stand-out toy.

When we do a We Vibe Vector vs Lovense Edge 2 comparison, the reason you might want to buy the Vector here is simply because it looks better and because it has the physical remote. The Lovense Edge 2 is better for people that want to use the toy long distance and those who want advanced app features like music sync. Yet for a lot of people, the We-Vibe Vector is still going to be the better choice.

For We-Vibe vs Lovense Edge 2, the conclusion boils down to something that resembles the old Mac vs PC debate. And for transparency, I’m writing this on a Mac.

The Edge 2 is really powerful and has all the features, just like a PC. Yet just like an old PC, the Edge 2 looks damn ugly. The We-Vibe Vector is really powerful and has that useful remote, yet it lacks some of the more advanced features and reliability in the app as the Edge 2. The We-Vibe Vector looks way better though. So if you want a beautiful object that does the job and does it well, you’ll be going for the good old, trusty and handsome We Vibe Vector.
