Are Bathmate gains permanent?

Bathmate Hydromax 7 x35 Penis Pump

Do Bathmate gains stick? According to my own (personal) experiment, yes… and no.

This article was originally written as part of my Hydromax 7 test. I used the pump for two months (documenting it on this website) and then I stopped to see what would happen to my gains. Later on, I also tried a different brand’s hydro pump, Bathmate HydroXtreme and also the Bathmate Hydro (review coming soon).

If you want to ask me questions feel free to leave a comment here or on one of my other posts. Alternatively you can contact me on twitter.

First time stopping use of a penis pump

My gains after one week of stopping the Hydromax 7

One week after stopping use of the penis pump, my length had gone back to normal (meaning I lost the extra 0.65 inches (1.65cm in length). However my maximum girth was still 0.1 inches more (0.25cm). My flaccid penis also still looked bigger and thicker.

Gains after one and a half months of no pumping

One and a half months after stopping use of the pump, my girth was still bigger than it was before I used the Bathmate pump. I only noticed because regular sized Durex condoms no longer fit me (they did before). My partner Eve also still found the girth of my penis slightly thicker. The difference was subtle but then I only used the pump for 2 months before stopping.

Update (8 months of no pumping)

After 7 months of no penis pumps, my girth was still thicker. My length had gone completely back to normal. The reason I knew my girth was thicker is because I test a lot of sex toys for this website and my penis felt a little too big for some toys I had previously had no issue with (one example is the Cobra Libre II).

Long story short – My length went back to normal but my girth remained slightly bigger.

Second time stopping use of a penis pump

One thing you may find interesting is that when I began pumping again, my penis size returned to the bigger size I had quite quickly. I never over-pump but I found that my penis size change was quicker the second time around.

Second time stopping using a penis pump

After the Hydromax I used the Penomet pump (a competitor to Bathmate) and followed quite a detailed regime that comes with it. Long story short, I gained 0.3 inches in length and 0.35 inches in girth with the Penomet. I have a review of Penomet’s pump here. I prefer the Bathmate pumps so after my two month test of the other brand, I never used it again.

Anyway, the second time I stopped using a penis pump my girth remained slightly bigger and the length also stayed a tiny bit bigger. However my length still went down a lot after stopping using a pump for the second time.

Gains after one year of infrequent pumping (updated 20/05/2020)

After one year of infrequent pumping my penis length had increased from 6.3 to 7.2 inches and my girth increased from 5.8 to 6.2 inches. If I had used a penis pump on a constant basis I have no doubt that I’d have been bigger. As a sex toy tester, I need to review lots of different products so I don’t tend to pump constantly. I do several months on and several months off. I imagine that most of you won’t use it constantly either. I plan to do a longer test with penis pumps at some point in the future and I also plan to test other devices, so make sure you check back here often or subscribe to my twitter where I post news.

After the other brand’s pump, I reviewed the HydroXtreme 7. The HydroXtreme 7 is now my go to pump and besides when I test other devices, the HydroXtreme is the one I use. It was with the HydroXtreme that I reached my biggest size (7.2 inches in length).

Gain changes upon using a weaker penis pump

For the past two months I have been using the Bathmate Hydro 7, which is Bathmate’s weakest penis pump. I will have a full review going up soon. The Hydro7 is vastly weaker in strength to the HydroXtreme so I was wondering what would happen to my gains. As it turns out, my length and girth haven’t changed too much. My girth is +0.1 inches bigger (not a big difference) and my length didn’t change. No big deal as far as I’m concerned. Needless to say, the HydroXtreme is better for advanced users like me.

Other user’s penis size permanency after stopping use of penis pumps

Be warned, other testimonials that I have read in forums and articles have indicated that Bathmate gains are not permanent. In order for the gains to be permanent, I would apparently need to keep using a penis pump or another form of penis extension.

My own tests show that the gains made from using Bathmate pumps aren’t totally permanent. I have been able to keep small gains in girth and very small gains in length. However this is nowhere near ‘permanent results’. I’m not too affected by this lack of permanency. It would certainly be great if the penis size gains were permanent, although in a way I’m quite happy about it. There is no evidence that using penis pumps doesn’t lead to penis damage. The fact that my penis can more or less return to normal is a good sign to me.

So in the end your length was back to normal? no permanent gains in length then?

    • Adam Rouge says:

Hey Ryan. That’s right, I personally had no permanent gains in length. However my girth remained slightly larger than it was before. It hasn’t really gone back down because I infrequently use pumps like these. However considering the fact that I don’t use them every week or even every month, that’s quite a nice sign.

      • Adam Rouge says:

I should also add that the increase in girth while using the pump is impressive. However after one and a half months or so of not using the pump, the gains I kept are only a small fraction of that. Nevertheless, some gains are kept.

  • Marco says:

Hi Adam, did the color of your penis changed and is permanent?

    • Adam says:

Hey Marco. Yes the colour of my penis is sometimes darker just after I’ve used the pump. For me these colour changes haven’t ever been permanent. My penis is usually back to normal within half an hour. I have read stories about others who really overpumped and had the colour change for far longer.

It’s important to always let the pressure out of your pump slowly after you’re finished (over several minutes). If you let the pressure out very quickly then you risk bruising and discolouring the penis.

To avoid over-pumping, I recommend you measure your erect penis before using the pump. Subtract half an inch from your measurement and then never pump your penis over this length. Ever since I’ve been doing that I haven’t had a problem.

  • Ray says:

How long were you using the pump before taking 8 month long break? It just seems like you used it for a bit then stop for 8 months. Reasonable that it would revert back to the original length when you stopped using it for that long. I bet you if you kept at it with no breaks in between, you’d sustain permanent gains.

    • Adam says:

Hey thanks for your comment… and sorry for taking so long to get back to you! Each test I did is 2 months long. Yes for sure, my gains could have been sustained if I kept using the device without break. Though that means that it isn’t permanent. Occasionally I have used the pumps for much longer than the testing period and it’s the same deal, the main proportion of gains remain only if you keep using the pump. I and others (you can check forums around the topic) only sustain gains if we keep using the pump. That’s why I don’t agree with the idea that the results are permanent. I wouldn’t personally trust anyone who says that.

  • Aaron Dinh says:

Do you think my gains can stay permanent if I use HydroMaxXtreme for over a year? With no other penis extenders, could this be possible?

    • Adam says:

Hey Aaron, thanks for stopping by and leaving a message. I’ve used the Bathmate pumps on and off over the course of several years. I think I first started using them in 2018. However like I said, that’s on and off, which I think is what most people with busy lifestyles will be doing in the long run. I personally haven’t seen permanent gains in length (or at least if there are, they are so imperceptable that I don’t feel them). What has remained is a small portion of my gains in girth. I know this due to condoms being tighter than they used to be before I started using the pumps. I see length gains return again each time I use the pumps for a few months.

In my case the majority of gains are not permanent after I stop using the pumps. A good place for you to read other people’s accounts and place for you to ask questions yourself are the PEGym forums. There you will find questions similar to what you are asking here and you’ll find many more people’s experiences with the pumps. Be cautious of what you read on review websites, most of them are massively exaggerating claims because they want to get commissions. Bathmate are actually against this exaggeration but that doesn’t stop many people from lying.

      • TheDon says:

Hey brotha! That’s impressive gains you’ve made in the span of 3 years! Good shit.

Can you please share your exact routine you used to gain that much length and girth if you don’t mind?

Was it just the bathmate you used in your routine or was there other things? Also they you use the bathmate erect?

        • Adam says:

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I think you’re asking the person who commented above (Wayne) but in case they don’t come back, I’ll share here how I myself achieved some results.

I recorded my routine in gains diaries while doing the reviews. You can read the routine I did with Bathmate’s devices here and those I did with Penomet here. I used all three Bathmate pumps and also Penomet’s pump. It’s just because I was reviewing them all. If I’d stuck to one, I would have stuck with the Bathmate HydroXtreme.

My routine was mostly going in flaccid for 10 minutes every other day. I don’t recommend going in erect, I didn’t see too much diff in terms of gains and it’s better to stay safe.

          Cheers!

  • Nixon says:

How do I use the Hydro safely without injuring myself? Should I do it every other day (4 times a week) with a few days off to avoid any damages?

Will the gains be permanent with this routine? Say I do it for one year. I’m happy with my size, all I need is girth that’s all.

    • Adam says:

Hi Nixon, I combined your two comments together for you to make it simpler to reply.

The Hydro has less pressure than the other two pumps and it’s the safest of all of them. To use the Hydro safely, follow Bathmate’s instructions and only use it for 5 minutes at a time for a maximum of three times in one day (meaning 15 mins should be the maximum you spend in it overall). Each time you use it, they say you should take it off after 5 minutes for a few minutes to give your penis a break. I think your idea of using it every other day is fine yes. That’s what I did when I first started. Also don’t enter the pump hard, no matter what anyone else tells you that is dangerous.

To tell you the truth, I usually used the pumps for 10 minutes at a time just once, rather than taking it off every 5 minutes. I didn’t ever hurt myself that way but I can’t tell you the same because Bathmate’s health and safety info states that 5 mins is the max you should do.

The gains aren’t permanent from my experience. I was using the pumps on and off for well over a year. It’s a great novelty but the length and girth go back down after stopping for awhile. A very small amount of my girth stayed though, so I think it might have made me a little thicker. I was already quite thick to begin with though. However I have noticed some condoms I used to enjoy feel too tight on me now.

Hope that helps! Like you said, you’re happy with your size so don’t overdo it. I’d think of it more as a novelty than a permanent solution.

  • Bobby says:

Would you say you noticed an increase in vascularity(“veininess”)? I’m pretty happy with my length, I’m mostly interested in an increase in girth and vascularity. If you did, did that vascularity stay over the course of your breaks?

    • Adam says:

Hi Bobby, I had pretty prominent veins on my penis already. I didn’t personally notice any increase in the thickness of veins / extra veins. My veins are more prominent during pumping and immediately afterwards but my veins go back to normal fairly quickly after I stop pumping. I know that some folks have claimed to have gotten varicose veins (a bad thing and not specifically with Bathmate devices either). It’s again another reason to take things slow and not get too hasty with aggressive pumping. Just to clarify though, I never got any kind of problem with my veins. – Adam

  • jo says:

Hi, I think that pumping is like going to the gym: you gain as long as you are on it and lose much, gradually, when you stop. The more you exercised, the less abrupt is the loss slope. If that makes sense.

There is nothing permanent with human body.

So, I think that one can enhance what he packs by being dedicated, realistic with his goals.

    • Adam says:

Hi, thanks for your message. Yes exactly, I agree that nothing is permanent with the human body. For me the ‘permanent gains’ thing is misleading marketing talk. The only thing I’d add is that going to the gym develops real muscle whereas pumping develops the soft tissue and that with soft tissue, there isn’t as much non-biased research on its resistance to that kind of force. Certainly I saw some nice gains during my time on pumps but I wouldn’t personally use them permanently… whereas I will keep going to the gym for as long as I’m able to!

  • Robert says:

So can the Bathmate HydroExtreme be used without water and with water?
Which option in your opinion is more effective?
Do you use semi hard or completely hard?

    • Adam says:

Hi Robert, cheers for stopping by. Yes the HydroXtreme can be used with and without water. It’s the most effective and most enjoyable one I used by them. No don’t use the pumps when you’re hard because it can put your penis under further strain and cause injuries. The way I was using the pumps was to go in flaccid and stay in them no more than 10 minutes. Bathmate recommends only 5 minutes at a time with breaks in between I believe… but yeah my method was just 10 minutes in flaccid each time. Check out my gains diary and you’ll see a bit more about how I used each pump.

  • Aleksandar says:

Hay, im glad that i have found this forum. The question i have is, when i am going in flacin with the hidromax7, my “boy” comes to a 1.5 – 2cm smaller (with the max pressure) then when i am fully erect. Is that normal and if so, how can he get bigger if its not being fully erect while inside of the pump?
Lots of love from Germany, stay safe.

    • Adam says:

Hey, I think I understand what you mean. You’re saying that when you go in flaccid, you are 1.5 – 2cm smaller than usual?

Just keep in mind that when you’re looking at yourself through water, objects become distorted. That’s why I always recommend pumping to half an inch (1.27cm) under your maximum length, because there’s a risk that you will have already reached your maximum but not realised because of magnification.

Tbh you should always be careful and treat this stuff as a novelty. I got a bit bigger doing what I did with these tests but there are risks too! You definitely don’t have to go into the pump erect to see progress. For most of my time doing these tests, I kept things safe and just went in flaccid for no more than 10mins a day.

  • Aleksandar says:

Yup, i was doing the pumping completely wrong. I was even considering to send it back, but through a little bit of research im now pumping properly. The mistake i was making is that i was going in flacid and pump to max without making short pauses between the individual pump. I am now completely comfortable to go 10 min, pause , 5min seasons to 1cm below my erected size. But thanks anyway for your answer. Happy pumping to all 😄👋🏼

    • Adam says:

Glad you have it working for you! Be careful if you’re going in erect though – that isn’t recommended. I had a few issues doing it that way and in the end found going in flaccid still gave me what I wanted out of it.

  • Jordy says:

I just bought the hydromax 9, I wanted the 7 because i’m 18.5 cm long, but the guys at the shop told me that the 9 is fine for guys like me…. So is it wrong to use the 9 if I’m a 7.5 and how exactly i know if I’m at the right pressure when pumped. I did the 3×5 session and when I fill up the hydromax with water and put my penis as instructed the pump does not sit compressed but somehow it retracts from my pubic. I have no hair down there and there is no air leaking…. what i’m doing wrong here?

    • Adam says:

I had a bit of a hard time adapting to these hyrdopumps at first. If you don’t have hair down there then that’s already good. I’d say it’s mainly a timing, pressure or angle thing. You should get the hang of it if you haven’t already. A guy who commented on another article says he likes using vaseline to help. I’m not sure if that’s recommended by BM but maybe it’s worth a go if you really can’t get it working.

  • MeteoricFeline says:

iirc with this kind of thing, you have to slowly taper off
over the course of several months of usage & routine to see permanent gains from a routine.

At least I remember that being the case.
